ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Bio
Lucy is an artist based in Maldon, Essex and lives with her husband and 2 daughters.
Always painting and drawing from a young age she is completely self taught. In her twenties she starting selling her paintings and taking commissions and even had a stall for a short time at Spitalfields Market in London. Then in her thirties she took a break from art to raise her daughters & was all consumed by motherhood. Ten years later just before her 40th birthday she had a kind of epiphany after doing some soul searching. She realised that art had always been her purpose. It was her calling and she had been missing it all that time. From that day on she has been pursuing her art all over again.
Artist Statement
My paintings focus on the things I love to do in this life & how they make me feel. Like the heartbreak you can feel when reading a book, the shivers you get when you hear a certain song or the joy of watching your kids play. I've always been fascinated with the power that books, film and music have and how they can evoke so many different emotions. Its an ongoing quest of mine to capture this in my paintings.
I paint mainly with acrylics in a realism style which I think helps to tell the stories of those moments.
My preferred subjects are people, books and music which have always been a big inspiration. For me they offer an escape from this ever changing and confusing, tech obsessed world. I hope that through my art I can offer that moment of escapism.
